Lady in Red organic apples are harvested in April. Once harvested these organic apples are held in cool storage to provide continuous supply throughout the year. Two types of cool storage are used to ensure the organic apples as kept as crisp as possible. Organic apples marketed from June through to August/September are kept chilled in normal air storage. Once these are distributed then the CA (controlled atmosphere – CO2) stored organic apples are released. By reducing the presence of oxygen in storage organic apples are kept crisp for longer ensuring that produce is available throughout the year.
